My mom, Rhonda Neff, has spent most of her life living with chronic pain, yet she has never let it define her. Through every challenge, she has remained one of the strongest, most caring people we know.
Her journey began early. At just 15 years old, she underwent surgery to have her hips rebuilt, followed by complete hip replacements in her 30s. While those surgeries helped, they never fully relieved her pain. Eventually, she was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, adding another layer to the daily pain she endured.
Just over a year ago, hoping for a better quality of life, she underwent a knee replacement. Instead of finding relief, she developed Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)—a rare neurological condition often referred to as one of the most painful disorders known to medicine.
For my mom, even the lightest touch can trigger excruciating pain. Something as simple as clothing brushing against her leg or a bedsheet touching her knee can cause unbearable pain that medical professionals often compare to, or even describe as worse than childbirth. Every day is a battle that most of us cannot imagine.
She has never stopped searching for answers. She underwent a trial for a spinal cord stimulator, one of the leading CRPS treatments available in the United States. Unfortunately, it provided little relief. She was even prepared to move forward with a permanent implant, hoping it might eventually help. On the day of surgery, however, doctors discovered an infection, forcing them to cancel the procedure.
During that difficult experience, her surgeon mentioned another patient who had found success with a specialized treatment program in Italy. After extensive research, my mom discovered a clinic offering an innovative treatment with a promising history of helping patients achieve remission from CRPS. They also create personalized treatment plans to address conditions like fibromyalgia, giving her hope for relief from both sources of pain.
She has been accepted into this intensive two-week treatment program, scheduled for September 20 through October 4.
Unfortunately, this opportunity comes with a significant financial burden. Between the medical treatment, international travel, lodging, and other necessary expenses, the total cost is expected to be approximately $55,000.
We're asking for your help in giving my mom a chance at something she's been searching for her entire life: relief from constant pain and the opportunity to live more comfortably.
Every donation, no matter the amount, brings her one step closer to this life-changing treatment. If you're unable to give, sharing this fundraiser with your family, friends, and community would mean the world to us.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, generosity, prayers, and support. Your compassion gives our family hope, and we are deeply grateful for every person who joins us on this journey.
With love,
John, Rhonda, JaBrenna, Ky and Tay
