Hi everyone,
My name is Enoch Ayiku and I am reaching out on behalf of my dear cousin, Rhodaline Appiah who is currently going through a really difficult time battling Desmoid Type Fibromatosis of the Lung.
What is Desmoid Tumor?
A Desmoid tumor (also called aggressive fibromatosis) is a rare, non-cancerous (benign) growth that arises from connective tissue, usually in muscles, tendons, or ligaments. It can grow aggressively and invade nearby tissues and organs.
In 2021 Rhodaline was diagnosed of Desmoid Type Fibromatosis of the left Lung and was later admitted at the hospital. After spending a month and two weeks she was discharged because of financial hardship and inability to fund treatments and limited treatment options at the hospital, Rhodaline has then been on oxygen to help support her breathing.
In Rhodaline’s case, the tumor has been slowly and painfully impacting daily life, the tumor has extensively invaded and compromised her left lung, a large mass displacing the heart to the right, resulting in significant loss of lung function. The pain is constant and intense, often radiating through affected areas due to pressure on nerves and surrounding tissues. This has led to serious mobility challenges, discomfort, and frequent fatigue along the years.
Coming from a humble background, Rhodaline and the family have fought quietly and bravely for years, doing their best to manage the symptoms with what little resources they have, visiting hospitals and seeking for help everywhere they can.
Beyond the physical pain, the emotional toll is just as real. Living each day with uncertainty, without access to consistent medical care, has begun to affect her mental health and overall well-being.
It breaks my heart to see someone so full of potential in life, who was getting excited about college been slowly worn down by something that could be managed with the right treatment and care. That is why I have started this campaign to rally support for the urgent medical help Rhodaline needs and deserves.
Desmoid tumors require specialist care, regular imaging, and in many cases, targeted therapy or surgery — all of which come at a cost we currently cannot afford alone. Your support will go directly towards the treatment needed to give Rhodaline a chance at a healthier, pain-free future — and one day, the opportunity to return to school and rebuild the life she deserves. This journey has been difficult but I believe in the kindness of people and the power of community.
The funds raised will go directly towards assessing expert medical care and consultations in the country and overseas, medications, surgery and other treatment-related expenses.
Every donation, no matter how small or big will make a real difference and bring us one step closer to end this fight.
If you’re not able to donate, sharing this campaign to your networks would mean the world to us.And if you can, please keep Rhodaline in your thoughts and prayers.
We’ll post regular updates on this page to share her progress and journey.
Thank you so much for your kindness and support.
