One of my dearest friends, Rhiannon, is facing a devastating situation after a landslide came down directly behind her home and demolished her garage/shop and killed both her precious family dogs after a heavy and brutal rainstorm. According to the Noxon Fire Department, there are two new landslides with one leading directly to her house. This catastrophe occurred simultaneously with escaping a domestic violence situation that is still unfolding. Rhiannon is working tirelessly to rebuild a safe and stable life for her children after fleeing an unsafe environment and now has what must feel like the weight of the world on her shoulders. Sadly, her garage, where she stores all the equipment needed to survive the harsh winters of Montana, is completely destroyed, along with damage to much-needed equipment, such as a snow plow, winter tires, chains, and saws. In addition, her 1,000-gallon propane tank was completely destroyed, causing a gas leak. Fortunately, and by the grace of God, her main house was barely damaged, though it is unsafe for her to currently live there due to needing to reinforce the hill behind her home so further damage doesn’t occur. The landslide caused severe damage to the land behind her home, and the ground continues to break away, creating a dangerous situation that could trigger another landslide, making it unsafe for her and her two children to live in their home.

To add insult to injury, her insurance company is denying the claim, stating that they don’t cover land movement. She continues to contest the denial. Rhiannon urgently needs help to reinforce the land behind her home and secure the area before the damage becomes irreversible. The cost of retaining materials, labor, and structural support is far beyond what she can afford on her own.
