A close family I know in Puerto Vallarta is facing an unimaginable hardship. They own a small tequila shop on the Malecon, which supports their entire family and relies heavily on tourism. Recently, the area was severely impacted by cartel violence, causing many to lose their cars and a significant decline in visitors. Despite these challenges, my friends Jose and Reyna were slowly starting to recover, working tirelessly to keep their business afloat.
Then tragedy struck. A gunman entered their shop and shot Reyna, the owner's wife, four times, and her brother-in-law twice. In a heroic act, the brother-in-law tackled the shooter, saving his sister-in-law. Both survived, but Reyna now needs surgery to fix broken bones and remove the bullets. The government-funded hospital lacks the resources to perform the surgery, so Reyna was transported to a private hospital with experienced doctors who can repair most of the damage. However, the cost of this care is overwhelming for the family.
Those who know Jose and Reyna's tequila shop know how hard-working and kind they are. I know times are tough for everyone, but any support would make a huge difference for Reyna and her family as they face this crisis. Please pray for a quick recovery and consider helping them through this difficult time. God bless.
