Reyna Alvarez’s life was turned upside down in an instant, and her story is one of heartbreak and injustice.
A lawful resident of the United States, Reyna, 52, was detained and deported to Mexico where she doesn’t have family, and she has not lived since she was 5 years old.
Two years ago, tragedy struck when she lost her husband of 25 years in a horrible accident. He had been the primary breadwinner, and since his passing, Reyna has been struggling financially, trying to make ends meet and care for her family on her own.
Despite her grief and challenges, Reyna kept pushing forward, trying to provide a stable life for herself and helping her children. Yet, on March 10th, 2025, without any warning or explanation, Reyna was detained by ICE. She was held in detention, despite having committed no crime—no violation of immigration laws. She is a lawful resident of the United States, and yet, she was wrongfully detained.
To make matters worse, Reyna was deported to Mexico on March 11th— when she quickly became ill and was taken to a hospital. She was then released without her personal belongings, including her California ID, SSN card, resident card, and even her vehicle. She was left stranded in a foreign country, where she had no family connections. Unable to return to the life she had built in the U.S., unable to go back to her children and grandchildren, and without the resources she needs to navigate this unimaginable situation.
Reyna's case is a tragic example of an unjust system that has taken away everything she worked for the past 47 years, leaving her without any way to get back to her family, to the life she’s entitled to in the United States. She needs legal representation to fight this unlawful deportation and to reunite with her children and grandchildren in the U.S.
Your generous donation can help: 1. Retain an Attorney: Reyna needs expert legal help to fight her case, challenge the unlawful detention, and begin the process of returning to the U.S. Your donation will help secure the legal resources necessary to navigate the complex immigration system and bring Reyna home. 2. Help cover the financial burden this all has caused. Reyna lost her source of income after being deported and lost her job in Los Angeles. Despite all this she has to cover her monthly expenses back in Los Angeles, her home, car loan, and other monthly expenses.
Reyna’s story is just one of many in a broken system that continues to separate families and treat lawful residents like criminals.
Please consider donating today to help Reyna Alvarez retain an attorney, fight for her rights, and reunite with her family. Every contribution, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to bringing Reyna home where she belongs.
Thank you in advance for your support in helping us bring justice to Reyna and her family.
