Those who know Reyhan and Kevin know them for their easy-going, caring nature. Life has shown its ugly face to them more than once, yet every time they have met adversity with grace, resilience, and their unmistakable sense of humour. They are loved for their perseverance, their positivity, and the passion they bring to everything they do, big or small.

Tragically, life showed them its ugliest face once again on 8 November 2025. Reyhan’s mum was found collapsed in their Melbourne home, unconscious and surrounded by vomit. She had travelled to Australia just five days earlier on a tourist visa, finally reunited with her daughter after years apart. She had suffered a severe stroke and has remained in hospital ever since.

Thanks to Reyhan and Kevin’s quick response, she received immediate, life-saving medical care. But while her life was saved, her road to recovery is long, uncertain, and incredibly demanding, both emotionally and financially. She now requires 24/7 care for an unknown duration, and her recovery will depend on sustained, intensive support. In the months ahead, she will need ongoing physiotherapy and rehabilitation to give her the best possible chance of regaining essential functions, such as walking and speaking, and to reclaim as much independence and quality of life as possible.

Despite having purchased travel insurance for her visit, a “technicality” has been used by the insurer to deny coverage for the very medical care her life depended on. As a result, the overwhelming costs of surgery, days in ICU, and over 60 days (and counting) of hospitalisation have fallen entirely on the family.
