Help Ren the rescue dog
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Helen Lynn. I am fundraising for the vet costs required for a rescue dog, Ren. She needs an echocardiogram along with further blood tests and medication. She also needs to be spayed when healthy enough for surgery. A generous donor paid the initial emergency vet visit, and for that we are so grateful!
- Rens Rescue: It took a small group of people ten days to rescue Ren. She was found in extremely poor condition, and seemed close to death. I believe this was from dehydration as she wasn’t very mobile. She found shelter underneath an abandoned building close to our house. It was clear she was badly injured and terrified of people.
- After a few days she started drinking water and eating the dog food we had been leaving. She was too scared to come out from under the building even though she had to crawl to move. Her injuries made this very straining and you could see she was exhausted. With many Wendy’s hamburgers, lots of gentle patience, we were able to gain her trust over the days. On the tenth day, after many hours, we finally helped her into the backseat and straight to the emergency vet.
- Her injuries were multiple puncture wounds from other dog(s). Her heart was enlarged but she tested negative for heart worms. Sometimes this is temporary from being in such bad condition. She will be re-tested at the next vet appointment. Her past injuries included being shot, separate times by a shotgun. Thankfully the pellets aren’t in fragile areas and do not require extraction. She has been hit by a car resulting in some hind end displacement, this also would be more damaging to treat since it’s older. She moves very well and does not have pain from this injury thankfully. She also has old scars from past fights.
- More info: You wouldn’t believe the leaps and bounds she has made since her rescue just three weeks ago! She is an absolute doll and just wants love. She loves to roll in fresh grass and get belly scratches. She is now house and crate trained. She walks well on a leash but prefers to be inside in her warm bed. She is quite calm for a shepherd, and likes a quiet life.
We will have to rehome her when she is healthy as she is not a fan of our cats and doesn’t seem to be super friendly to our sweet Labrador either. Ren had to fend for herself for so long, and clearly was attacked by other big dogs, so we can’t blame her. She seems like she may come around to other dogs or be okay with smaller dogs. She does not lunge or act aggressive.
Ren is very scared of gunshots for obvious reasons. She is learning that new people are kind. After her abuse and just three weeks, I find this amazing. I think she would be such a loyal companion for someone who wants a loving pet. She does best with someone who won’t leave her for long hours alone/kenneled. She’s great in the house and doesn’t mess with anything! She appears to be full blooded German Shepherd but we can’t be sure. We will be very selective to find the right forever home for Ren.
Thank you for reading. If you aren’t in a place to donate, please share. If we raise more than our goal, any additional funds will go to the few no-kill shelters nearby that are never endingly overcrowded, and the reason why I took on Ren myself.
