Help Reuven Hoffman Defeat Lymphoma

Donation protected
Hi family, friends, and other supporters,

My father, Reuven Hoffman (also known as Robert, Bob, or Bobby) is in need of your assistance.

As you may be aware, he was first diagnosed with cancer in February 2015. He suffered from left shoulder pain and after thorough evaluations, the results showed histiocytic sarcoma and follicular lymphoma, a unique and rare combination which was shocking to many doctors and medical professionals. It was so puzzling that it required the intervention of a head of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to eventually confirm this diagnosis.

In August 2015, he started receiving chemo treatments for the lymphoma and both diagnoses achieved complete remission. With so many of you praying for him, not only was the treatment successful, but the sarcoma went into spontaneous remission with no medical intervention. He received maintenance therapy between October 2015 and July 2017.

Things were looking bright and he was able to move to Israel (making aliyah) with my stepmother, Golda, in March 2016 as his health permitted a life-long dream to become a reality.

In February 2019, following a routine PET/CT scan, the return of follicular lymphoma was discovered, and the diagnosis quickly changed to one of the most aggressive types of lymphoma, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Standard treatment for a first occurrence of DLBCL is a bone marrow transplant which he received in April 2020. Once again, countless individuals across the world joined in prayer and performed intentional acts of kindness as G-d granted Reuven freedom from illness for a year and a half.

Unfortunately, in November 2021, this month, he was hospitalized and it has been determined that the DLBCL has returned. The treatment for a second recurrence is called CAR T-cell therapy. Instead of being injected with new stem cells, he will be receiving new lymphocytes.

There is a particular medication needed that won’t be covered by insurance.

Edit/update: Originally, there were a total of two doses of the particular medication which were needed; however, we were recently made aware that three doses are required, not two. Therefore, the goal for this fundraising campaign has increased.

We’re currently raising funds to cover the cost of this medication in the hopes of making his return to health as smooth and nurturing as possible. It is critical that we receive funding immediately as he is scheduled to begin treatment this upcoming Sunday, November 21, 2021.

Thank you in advance, as always, for your prayers for Reuven Eliyahu ben Devorah, and for your emotional support, positive thoughts, and love. We are so grateful and appreciative of you for caring for us over the last 6 years. Throughout all this, Reuven has heroically continued to fight for his life, even while sharing with many of you his wisdom, his humor, and his love.

All donations will go to the Hoffman family for this medication that is required for his recovery.
