We are Elite Child Advocacy, an organization dedicated to protecting the rights of children and families. We are fundraising to support Tasha Patterson and her husband, Michael Patterson.

Their Story
Almost 4 years ago, Tasha and Michael’s babies were taken away due to a misdiagnosis and a rush to judgment. It has been discovered that both Tasha and her children have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), a genetic condition that may have contributed to the misunderstood circumstances. The twins themselves were also found to have Metabolic Bone Disease.

We are reaching out on behalf of Tasha and Michael Patterson, a loving couple whose lives were turned upside down by a heartbreaking series of events. Tasha’s journey into motherhood began with immense joy, but her dreams of raising her twin boys were shattered when their children were removed from their care at 8 weeks due to false allegations of abuse—allegations that medical evidence now shows were unfounded.

The Patterson twins were found to have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), a condition that affects the connective tissue, along with another genetic anomaly and metabolic bone disease. These medical conditions can cause easy bruising, bleeding, and bone fragility. The fractures and injuries that led to the abuse allegations were consistent with these medical diagnoses—not abuse. One of the injuries diagnosed in particular was later deemed to not even exist.

Despite evidence from twelve medical experts confirming this, including the twins’ own treating geneticist, Tasha and Michael's parental rights remain terminated due to the original pediatrician's allegations. Their children were removed from their care, leaving Tasha and Michael devastated and fighting for justice. Even worse, the twins’ older half-brother, who was 8 years old at the time, was also permanently removed from the home despite asserting that no abuse ever occurred. He is now 11 years old.

The twins continued experiencing injuries after removal from the Pattersons due to their underlying medical conditions. The injuries resolved after proper medical preventative measures were implemented. Unfortunately, almost 4 years later, Tasha and Michael are still fighting for their children.

This tragedy highlights a severe flaw in the system. Not only did Tasha and Michael lose their children and Michael's son from a previous relationship, but Tasha also lost her job working for a major healthcare system, and their family has endured relentless emotional and financial hardship. Despite all of this, they are not giving up hope. They are currently litigating their third appeal.

If they lose this critical appeal and there is no resolution, their children could be permanently adopted out to another family. This would be a heartbreaking and irreversible loss for Tasha and Michael, who have spent years gathering evidence and advocating for their children’s return.

Through these unimaginable challenges, Michael and Tasha’s faith in God has kept them strong. They remain hopeful and steadfast as they continue this fight.

This systemic issue has also prompted Florida State Legislators to propose Senate Bill 42 / House Bill 47, “Specific Medical Diagnoses in Child Abuse Investigations,” to help prevent similar tragedies from happening to other families.

Tasha and Michael are fighting not only for their children but also for other families who may face similar circumstances. Their love for their children is unwavering, and they need your help to bring their family back together.
