Help Reunite Single Mother with Pets & Family
Donation protected
I received a desperate plea for emergency boarding for a dog earlier this week. Unfortunately, due to the volume of unwanted pets, the SPCA is unable to help board the dog, Bubba, for the 2-3 months that would be required. But surely, there was some way I could help this single mom, her 2 boys, and their 5 pets. This family is not only being displaced but split up because no one could provide a temporary place for all of them. Giving up their pets was absolutely out of the question.
When people try to do the right thing and don't give up on their furry family members, I feel compelled to help put that family back together. Sometimes, all that's needed is a little boost for those who are struggling.
And struggling they were. The hits kept coming for Marnie, Alex, and Aidan. Marnie underwent a major surgery in April of 2023 and spent weeks recovering. Just a month later, Marnie was back on her feet, but another tragedy struck. 16 year old Alex suffered a sports-related injury that required surgery and 5 months of rehabilitation. While this was a setback, the worst came when bills began to stack up. Marnie has a high deductible medical insurance plan and pays 20% out of pocket. The insurance covered 80% of Marnie and Alex's surgeries and Alex's rehab appointments, but only 18 visits. Insurance covered 6 weeks of rehab, but Alex required 5 months of treatment three times a week.
Marnie works hard and has always been able to provide for her family. Even though these out of pocket expenses were causing hardship, Marnie was able to keep up with her bills and work on paying for the medical procedures. But money has been very tight.
Marnie received more bad news in October when her mom was diagnosed with cancer. Another setback for the family, but they kept it together and continued working on paying their hefty medical bills despite this new challenge.
And then, in December- right around Christmas time, Marnie received news that would put her into a panic - she had 30 days to vacate their apartment. The landlord was moving their family member in. Marnie was faced with the challenge of finding new housing at a time when all of her savings were depleted.
Marnie prides herself in her hard work and fortitude, but sometimes everyone needs just a little help. She is able to afford her month-to-month bills, but she is unable to come up with the funds to pay, first month's rent, and a security/pet deposit for a new apartment.
As of tomorrow, Marnie's family will be separated and scattered between 2 counties. Marnie and her oldest son are living with her sister, and her youngest is living with another relative. Unfortunately, no one would accept their pets, so a foster-based rescue stepped up and is housing the 4 cats -Ammo, Luna, Leo, and Nyla. They were able to find free emergency boarding for their pittie mix, Bubba, but only for a short time.
My goal is to help this family raise the money needed to get an apartment to reunite the three of them with their beloved pets. All funds raised will help make Marnie, Alex, and Aidan's family whole again.
If you're able to help, your support will mean the world to this struggling pet-loving family.
