Trigger warning: domestic violence
My best friend moved to Saskatchewan from Ontario 6 months ago to start a new life for herself and her children with her long term boyfriend. Unfortunately, she became a victim of domestic violence and was brutally assaulted in her home. She was stabbed multiple times and had to undergo emergency surgery but is currently stable and in the ICU. She has two daughters (7 & 9) who unfortunately witnessed the attack and ran to a neighbour's house and ultimately saved their mother’s life.
Because she has no family in Saskatchewan, her siblings rushed out to care for their nieces and will be bringing them back to Ontario. She will have to remain in Saskatchewan until she is well enough to come back to Ontario. It will be a long road including the cost of flights, moving costs, housing, care for her daughters, transportation for therapy etc. She endured horrific injuries including stab wounds to her neck and back, punctured lungs, a fractured jaw and nose as well as blood clotting.
My friend had spent several years tirelessly raising her babies as well as caring solely for her ailing father and grandfather. Everyone lost their family home after her grandfather passed away and this was to be a fresh start for her. She is an incredible woman with a kind and gentle spirit. Anyone who knows her is devastated by this turn of events. She had spent above and beyond her savings to move out west and she and her daughters can use any help to ensure a smooth transition back to Ontario.
*In order to ensure my friend's safety, I chose to keep her and her children's identities confidential*
