My name is Julio Reyes, and this is a story I never imagined I would have to tell.

My family and I have been separated for years—not because we wanted to be, but because life took us in different directions when financial hardship made it impossible to stay together. Opportunities, survival, and the need to provide forced us across borders and into different countries, each of us trying to build something stable with very little.

What started as a temporary sacrifice slowly turned into years of distance. Birthdays were missed. Holidays became quiet. Important moments—both happy and painful—were experienced alone instead of together. Phone calls and messages have been the only way we’ve been able to hold on to each other, but it’s not the same as being in the same room, sharing a meal, or simply hugging the people you love.

Despite everything, we’ve never stopped being a family. We’ve supported each other from afar, encouraged one another through struggles, and held on to the hope that one day we could be reunited.

Right now, the situation is even more urgent. My children are currently facing health challenges, and being apart from them during this time has been incredibly difficult. My goal is to bring them here as soon as possible so they can receive the medical care they need and so I can be there for them in person—supporting them, comforting them, and making sure they are safe.

I am finally in a position where reuniting with my family feels possible—but the financial barriers are still very real. Travel costs, legal processes, and medical-related expenses are more than I can manage alone.
