Urgent help is needed to reunite Felipe with his family; a father of three children and a loving husband to Katty. On April 8th, 2026, Felipe was in his interview for his pathway to citizenship, and was detained by ICE agents at the federal immigration building in Minneapolis. He is currently in detention in Albert Lea, MN- approximately 2 hours away from his home and family. A lawyer has been able to file a habeas corpus petition to challenge the legality of Felipe's detention because no warrant was served when he was detained at his immigration interview, nor does he have a criminal record. Felipe would not have been able to apply for citizenship if he had any criminal record. His detention is increasingly perplexing because while at his interview, his petition paperwork was approved to continue his path towards citizenship. With the habeas corpus petition in motion, Felipe will be in front of a judge on April 22nd. His lawyer will need to prove it is vital for his family that he stay in the country.
Felipe has been living in the United States for 25 years, ever since he was 14 years old. He crossed the border of Mexico into the U.S. as a child after he was abandoned by his mother in Oaxaca. Yet, despite his hardships of abandonment and neglect by his parents, he has created a life for himself with his wonderful wife and children while contributing to our community as a skilled worker renovating homes.
What we are asking for today is for our community to come together for a fellow family, who is being racially targeted and ripped apart by our government. Felipe is not a criminal. He has been pursuing U.S. citizenship the correct way. No family deserves to lose a dad or the love of their life, especially due to the color of their skin or their immigration status. Please donate what you can in order to save Felipe and Katty from losing each other, their home, and the life they created together here in Minnesota. The funds will contribute to Felipe's lawyer fees, loss of job income, any bills, and basic needs.
