We need your help! Last year, the Nabawis won a visa lottery to come to the U.S. after fleeing Afghanistan following the withdrawal of U.S. troops. They moved to southern Virginia where the cost of living is much lower, but unfortunately, they've found themselves living in a very dangerous neighborhood and the boys (ages 8 and 10) attend a very poor performing school.
Luckily, the family has found affordable housing in Bethesda, Maryland. Moving the Nabawis to Bethesda would be life changing. It would bring better wages and job opportunities for the parents, a better school environment for the boys, and proximity to a solid support system. Most importantly, it would bring safety to this family who has suffered so much.
If you are willing to assist with the myriad of tasks that will be needed the first week or so of February (e.g. unpacking the UHaul, donating a few furniture pieces, helping with job applications), please consider donating your time in the sign up linked here.
