My boss’s family is facing an unimaginable challenge. Her husband, who has lived here since he was young, was recently taken by ICE agents and moved to Massachusetts, where he is currently being held. She is left to run their local store and care for their 2.5-year-old son all on her own. The uncertainty and fear are overwhelming, and she is struggling financially as she navigates all that life has thrown at her all at once! Until further notice the Patel family is being given support and assistance through a lovely summer vacationer until able to make ends meet.

This family has always worked hard to serve our community through their market, and they do so much for the people of Friendship. The town truly relies on them and all they do for the community, from providing essential goods to offering a welcoming space for neighbors and friends. With her husband gone, my boss is doing everything she can to keep the store open, provide for her son, and navigate the legal process. The costs of hiring a lawyer, keeping the business afloat, and making sure her family has enough to eat are more than she can manage alone.
