My name is Rev. Rebecca Myers, MSW, and I am organizing this fundraiser for a family in our community. They came to the United States seeking specialized medical care for their 9-year-old son, who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a progressive muscle disease. On May 25, the husband and father was taken into ICE custody and, after nearly three weeks in detention, was deported. With the family's primary wage earner gone, they have made the heartbreaking decision to return to Mexico so they can be together again.
Our immediate goal is to raise funds to help pay rent and basic living expenses while the family prepares to leave, provide urgent dental care for their three oldest children—including treatment requiring anesthesia—and obtain passports for the children. Additional donations will help with medical, transportation, and transition expenses. As organizer, I will ensure funds are used responsibly, with payments made directly to providers whenever possible.
Every gift, no matter the amount, will help reunite this family and give these children the care they need. Thank you for your compassion and support.
