My name is Ilyas Aidarus, and I am creating this fundraiser to aid a convert brother I have known in Egypt for a few years who has contacted me for assistance.

A few weeks ago he was detained in Cairo, Egypt by police and although he had a valid iqamah (residency) and a valid passport, he was still taken to prison and deported back to Angola (his home country).

This brother is a convert of only a few years and is the only Muslim in his family. He has already made great strides in learning Islam and Arabic while in Egypt in such a short time (about 2-3 years).

He is also a skilled barber by profession and earned his living that way while in Egypt. He would go to homes throughout Cairo and cut hair and many of the western brothers in the Nasr City area in Cairo are familiar with him. After saving some money he began to rent a small space and would get customers to come to him, myself being from those customers.

Unfortunately, last year his residency was not renewed and he was forced to have to leave Egypt and due to that lost everything he had worked hard for; his equipment, the small space, everything.

He came back to Egypt earlier this year, now his wife pregnant and he still struggling to find income, has now been deported back to his home country (Angola) while his 8-month pregnant wife is alone without any money and he has no way to return to her.

He has tried to ask whoever he could but was only get enough to pay for the visa to return to Egypt.

He has told me that he will not have any issues returning to Egypt after having been deported as they did not put anything on his passport that would prevent him from entering.

The money raised will go towards:

  • Sending money to his pregnant wife that is currently alone in Egypt to get the necessities she needs for herself and her soon to be born baby inshaa Allaah (by the end of December).
  • His one way flight from Angola to Egypt.
  • Pocket money for himself for his journey back to Egypt
  • For him to buy barber equipment (machine, clips, chair, etc) to be able to sustain himself as he used to, due to having lost everything he invested in previously
  • Some money to cover his living expenses until he is able to get a steady income

I can confirm that this brother is poor and qualifies for zakatul maal for anyone who wishes to put their zakatul maal towards this.

I ask Allah to aid this brother and protect him and his family from any harm during this trial. Aameen.
