My name is Jansy, and I am reaching out for help during the most difficult time my family has ever faced. We are a Guatemalan family who have always done everything legally to be in this country. My husband, Edwards, and I have three daughters, including our 5-year-old, Heather Aleksa, who is autistic. Recently, our lives were turned upside down when Edwards was taken into custody by ICE, despite having no criminal background and being in the country legally. The situation escalated when our daughter Heather was forcibly taken from our car by ICE and brought to the police station, causing her immense distress. Thankfully, my mother was able to bring her home, but the trauma has deeply affected us all, especially Heather, whose routine is so important for her well-being.
Since Edwards was detained, I have been unable to leave our home. Our house is surrounded, and I am afraid to take my children to school or even to the doctor if they get sick. Heather’s routine has been completely disrupted, which is especially hard for her as an autistic child. My other daughters are scared and miss their father terribly. With no income coming in, I am struggling to provide even the basics, like groceries, for my children. Our main focus right now is to secure legal help for Edwards and to cover essential needs like food and protection for our family.
Your support would mean the world to us. It would help us fight for Edwards’ release, restore some stability for Heather and her sisters, and ensure that our family can stay together and safe. Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for considering helping us during this urgent and frightening time.
