On August, 8 2026 ICE agents arrived at the construction site of one of our Indivisible Middlebury members and detained two workers, Alex and Angel. Other workers fled in terror. Two hid in trees. A mother and her baby were left without their husband and father.

Alex and Angel were working on a sweltering Saturday doing dangerous and difficult work replacing a roof. Construction and farm work are two industries that Vermonters and people across our country rely on our migrant communities for. To treat them with chaos and cruelty beggars belief and shocks the conscience.

To worsen matters, ICE agents transported Alex and Angel to Massachusetts in an attempt to get them before a "friendly" judge. The practice of judge shopping is common but cruel. Taking people far from their families and their communities denies them the critical support any one would need in such a terrifying circumstance. It also puts a strain on their legal representation.

Community members are seeking legal representation for one of the men who doesn't qualify for free representation.

Indivisible Middlebury is asking our members, "Can you contribute to our fund-raising goal of 2,500.00"?
