In Baltimore, she suffered five days in a cold cell with 50 women and one toilet, sleeping on the floor with a foil blanket, not allowed to bathe and only given two meals a day. She was transferred to Louisiana where she has made the incredibly hard decision that the quickest way she’ll see her girls is if she agrees to be deported back to her home country in Central America. She wants to end the uncertainty, but she is languishing in detention, waiting for a hearing, far from her girls. A trusted aunt has taken the girls in and is supporting them as well as she can, despite being out of work. The family’s needs include paying for Maria’s collect calls. Maria is desperately awaiting a hearing and her ultimate deportation, and the girls are facing fear and loss.
