My name is Reem Elhafi, and I am a Palestinian refugee in Belgium. I am unable to work due to health reasons, but my greatest struggle right now is helping my family—and most urgently, saving Mohammed, my brother-in-law, who is trapped in Gaza.
Mohammed is a paramedic with the Palestinian Red Crescent, a man who has dedicated his life to saving others. He has pulled people from beneath the rubble, treated the wounded under fire, and even helped establish a medical clinic to serve those in need. He is a hero in every sense of the word.
Yet, despite all the lives he has saved, his own life is now in grave danger.
Mohammed was besieged and detained at Al-Amal Hospital for over a month, where he was subjected to brutal torture by the occupying forces. When he was finally released, he tried to reach safety—but Egyptian authorities denied him entry, without any explanation. I have personally gone multiple times to seek answers, but all I get is silence, or hints that a large sum of money must be paid.
Scammers have already taken advantage of our desperation, stealing money under false promises to help him escape. Meanwhile, Mohammed remains trapped, cut off from his wife, Noor, and their children. Noor is suffering from severe depression, living in constant fear that she will never see her husband again.
We have already lost so much—my uncle, my cousin, our neighbors, our closest friends. Our home has been destroyed, along with every memory and possession we had. My sister lost her job and is struggling to provide for her children and our sick father. She also lost the home she was preparing to move into.
I write this with a broken heart, unable to comprehend the devastation my family is enduring.
Now, it is our turn to save him.
We need to allocate part of the funds for coordinating Mohammed’s departure from Gaza, and the remaining donations will be used for rebuilding his life from scratch in Egypt. Here’s a suggested breakdown:
1. Allocating funds for Mohamed’s departure from Gaza:
A portion of the funds will be used to cover the coordination and necessary arrangements for his departure. This includes legal costs, travel, accommodation, and any emergency expenses related to the process.
2. Rebuilding life in Egypt:
The remaining amount will be used for rebuilding his life in Egypt. This will include setting up housing, covering basic daily expenses such as food and transportation, as well as allocating funds for education or vocational training if needed. Additionally, a portion will be set aside for an emergency fund or future investments.
This is just a general suggestion, and the figures can be adjusted based on specific needs. If you need more details or a different breakdown, I’m here to help.
We must raise enough funds to get Mohammed out before it is too late. He has saved countless lives—now he needs us to save his.
Even if you cannot donate, please share this campaign. You might be the one to connect us with someone who can help.
And please, keep us and the people of Gaza in your prayers.
Thank you.
