En noviembre 3 del 2024 nuestro querido amigo Nicolás, que era cómo familia sufrió un “accidente” en el trabajo, el estaba trabajando en un carro (soldando una pieza) por órdenes de su jefe, Nicolás pidió que su compañero encienda el carro y que arregle la gata porque estaba mal puesta, su compañero se subió al carro y lo encendió causando que el carro pierda su balance y se cayera encima de él acabando con su vida. Su cabecita explotó, y lo que queremos pensar es que murió al instante.

El jefe de Nicolás (dueño de la mecánica) no llamó al 911, pero el dueño afirma que si llamo a primeros auxilios y que ellos no le contestaron. El jefe y “otra persona” lo llevaron y lo dejaron en el hospital y ahí Nicolás Cacoango fue declarado muerto por los doctores. Como Nicolás no tiene familiares aquí en este país el Dueño de la mecánica creía que nadie iba a reclamar por el, claro lo que el no esperaba es que cuenta con nosotros y una comunidad que sabe que esto es indignante.

El vivía con mi tío y nuestra familia en Ossining.

Ese día el domingo 3 de noviembre del 2024, mi familia estaba teniendo una comida, Nicolás nos dijo que después del trabajo el iba a venir para convivir y pasarla bien, pero el nunca llegó. Nosotros llegamos a pensar que el se quedó tiempo extra y se quedó a tomar con sus compañeros de trabajo. En la tarde cuando mi tío y primo llegaron a la casa (viven todos juntos en un apartamento) se dieron cuenta que Nicolás aún no había llegado, le marcaron a su celular y no contestó. Todos se fueron a la cama pensando que llegaría o les llamaría a la mañana siguiente (Nicolás antes vivía en la mecánica así que no era tan raro que se quedara por trabajo). A la mañana siguiente Noviembre 4 del 2024, mi tío tocó la puerta de Nicolás y nuestro primo para que salgan a desayunar, ahí se dan cuenta que el no llegó, entre my tío y mi primo le llamaron unas 10 veces y le mandaron mensajes que el nunca contestó. Ellos dos se fueron ha trabajar aún tratando de localizar a Nicolás, mi tío decidió irse a la mecánica donde trabaja para buscarlo. Cuando el llegó el dueño y otra persona estaban en un carro pero a los segundos el dueño salió y se escondió atrás del garaje, un compañero de ahí fue quien le dijo a mi tío que Nicolás había fallecido, mi tío en shock se desesperó gritando que no es verdad, entre esa desesperación el le llama a mi mamá para ver si puede averiguar si es verdad o no que Nicolás está muerto.

A las 12:15 de la tarde me dieron las noticias a mi. Fui al hospital averiguar si en verdad está muerto o si está herido pero no tenían registro de el, quise sentir un alivio porque nos dio esperanza de que este bien pero unos minutos después el detective de la policía de Ossining me dio las noticias de que Nicolás había fallecido.

Nicolás de 47 años es un padre, un hijo, un hermano, un primo y un amigo, el fue una persona muy alegre, trabajadora, y humilde, ayudaba al que podía y nunca dejaba a nadie solo en sus momentos. Nicolás tiene 4 hijos, de edades de 7 y 14 y otros dos de 21 años. Lo único que nosotros y su familia de Ecuador pedimos es que nos ayuden a que su cuerpo sea devuelto a su país con sus hijos y familiares.

On November 3, 2024, our dear friend Nicolás, who was like family, suffered an “accident” at work. He was working on a car (welding a part) an order from his boss. Nicolás asked his co-worker to turn on the car and fix the jack because it wasn't properly set. His co-worker got into the car and started the engine, causing the car to lose its balance and fall on top of him, ending his life. His head exploded, and what we want to think is that he died instantly. Nicolás’ boss (owner of the mechanic) did not call 911, but the owner claims that he did call first aid and that they did not answer him. The boss and “another person” took him and left him at the hospital and there Nicolás Cacoango was declared dead by the doctors.

Since Nicolás has no relatives here in this country, the owner of the mechanic believed that no one would advocate or care for him. Of course, what he did not expect is that he counts on us and a community that knows that this is outrageous.

He lived with my uncle and our family in Ossining.

That day, Sunday, November 3, 2024, my family was having a hangout. Nicholas told us that after work he was going to come over to hang out and have a good time, but he never showed up. We thought that he had overstayed at work or stayed to drink with his coworkers. In the afternoon, when my uncle and cousin arrived home (they all live together in an apartment), they realized that Nicolas had not arrived yet. They called his cell phone and he did not answer. They all went to bed thinking that he would arrive or call them the next morning (Nicolas used to live in the mechanic's shop so it was not that unusual for him to stay for work). The next morning, November 4, 2024, my uncle knocked on Nicholas and our cousin's door to ask them to go out to breakfast. That's when they realized that he had not arrived. Between my uncle and my cousin, they called him about 10 times and sent him messages that he never answered. They both went to work still trying to locate Nicolas, my uncle decided to go to the mechanic where he works to look for him. When he arrived the owner and another person were in a car but seconds later the owner came out and hid behind the garage, a friend of his was the one who told my uncle that Nicolas had died, my uncle in shock was desperate shouting that it is not true, in that desperation he called my mother to see if she could find out if it is true or not that Nicolas is dead.

At 12:15 in the afternoon they gave me the news. I went to the hospital to find out if he is really dead or if he is injured but they had no record of him, I wanted to feel relief because it gave us hope that he was okay but a few minutes later the Ossining police detective gave me the news that Nicolas had died.

Nicolas is 47 years old, hes a father, a son, a brother, a cousin and a friend, he was a very happy, hard-working, and humble person, he helped whoever he could and never left anyone alone in their moments. Nicolas has 4 children, ages 7 and 14 and two others aged 21. The only thing we and his family in Ecuador ask is that you help us return his body to his country with his children and family.
