Hi, I’m Julie.
My husband and I have known James for years, and he’s truly one of the good guys.
Even after moving to Calgary with his young family five years ago, he’s stayed close to all of us in Ontario, always checking in, remembering birthdays, and doing thoughtful things for people. Recently, he ordered Krispy Kreme donuts for my son’s hockey team and had me deliver them to a close friend of ours who had lost her husband, his best friend - just because. That’s who he is.
He’s an amazing dad to his two young daughters, Lily and Shea, loves golf, hiking, and fine whisky, and is someone people just enjoy being around.
Back in March, James went into the hospital for what was supposed to be a routine procedure. A rare complication, Guillain-Barré Syndrome, changed everything and left him unable to walk.
He’s now in rehab, working hard every day, with the goal of going home and spending more time with his girls again.
But in order to do this, his house needs to be modified so he can live there safely. This goes beyond just making it wheelchair accessible; a number of changes are required so he can move around, use the washroom, and manage day-to-day life.
Fortunately, insurance will cover a good portion of the cost, but there’s still about a $25,000 shortfall.
So I’m asking for help, whether you know James or not, to get him home to Lily and Shea.
If you do know him, you already know the kind of person he is. He’s always shown up for others without making a big deal about it. It would mean the world to be able to do the same for him now.
In keeping with who James is, if we raise more than what’s needed, the extra will be donated to the Guillain-Barré Syndrome Foundation of Canada.
Thank you for reading, sharing, or contributing if you’re able.
