Hello my name is Diana Leos and I was an oncology/bone marrow transplant oncology certified nurse/case manager (RNOCNCM) for 20+ years in San Diego at the Moore’s Cancer Center for Dr Paul Fanta. oncologist, prior to that I worked on the BMT/bone marrow transplant floor for 5 years on the night shift. I remember telling a nurse that I would be transferring asap because oncology was too depressing but she just laughed and said “you are a born oncology nurse and she was right”. Before working there, I was a medical assistant in radiation oncology which helped me to decide that a nursing degree was in my future. I decided to become a RN thus my 20+ oncology career had begun but now tables have turned and I’m the patient. My hardest day was when I walked into the cancer center as no longer an employee but as a cancer patient, it took my breath for a moment. Now I’m a post-stroke, I had a 5 clot stroke on thanksgiving Day 2018, patient with colon aka colorectal cancer receiving chemotherapy at the same cancer center I worked at. My brother passed away from the same cancer 3 years ago. I’m looking to raise funds so I can purchase a used truck so my partner can come see me once or twice a month so he can bring my Boston terrier/Bella to come see me and cheer me up from Kingman Arizona where he is with my fur babies(cat and dog ) and our RV. Our vehicle now is a 2017 GMC Sierra 3500 which enables us to tow our retirement home which is a 40ft fifth wheel. This enables me to fulfill my dream of traveling and seeing the United States but all the trips between Arizona and California have taken its toll and have caused me to take this cancer journey alone so that I can be closer to UCSD. I have had to stay in San Diego alone while my loved ones stay in Kingman Arizona. Our truck is now giving us mechanical issues soon to be not running any more so please help so that even after chemotherapy I can continue to come to my oncologist in San Diego from Arizona to get my scans and hopefully my stage 3 tumor will not return too soon but I know as an oncology nurse these types of tumors have a high reoccurrence rate so please help me if you can and I would be so grateful. ❤️ good health to all
