Retired Det. George Flores gave over 20 years to the NYC. Police Dept, starting as a PO and ending his career as a 2nd Grade Detective. George was also present, together with the many 1st responders on Sept. 11th, assisting with the recovery efforts, at the various sites; morgue, ground zero, etc.. After retiring, George moved to S. Florida with his family: Retired Det. Luz Figueroa-Flores and 2 teenage granddaughters, who they are currently raising.
During an NYPD 10-13 Club of Broward monthly meeting, held back in January, George was fortunate to be introduced to Retired Lt.. Jeannie Kelly, assisting with the WTC Health Program and who during the meeting, advised on the types of registrations required, to be fully provided with the necessary healthcare & compensation, related to 9-11 health conditions. Little did George know, that about 2 weeks later, without any signs other than some stomach pains, he would be diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer, one of the many diseases/health conditions that is recognized as being related to 9-11. George had participated over 6 months with the recovery efforts.
One of the awesome things about George, in the little time that we have known each other, is that he is a strong and a fighter! His positive energy will give him the strength to beat it however his recent move to Florida, his condition currently being evaluated and handled in NYC, his wife Luz traveling to NYC, from FL, at least once a week and their responsibility of raising 2 teenage granddaughters, has created unexpected expenses. I am humbly asking our NYPD Brothers & Sisters to donate anything that you can, so George & Luz can make it through this while George’s WTC Health Program certification is approved. This can take a while and they can use our support. I ask you to please keep George in your prayers and may the Lord guide all healthcare professionals in his care.
