Help Restore The Reed Family Home After Hurricane Helene

The Unexpected Disaster – Helene
On Sep 26th, Hurricane Helene made landfall along the coast of Florida, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. My grandparents, along with many others near Steinhatchee, Keaton Beach, and Horseshoe Beach area, fell victim to severe flooding and wind damage. In a matter of hours, they lost nearly everything they owned of 80 years - furniture, clothes, electronics, and irreplaceable personal items.

The Reality
As homeowners, they have been hit with a double blow. Their insurance doesn't cover flood damage, and they are now faced with the daunting task of rebuilding their entire life from scratch. They had over 6 feet of water inside their home that took out interior walls, appliances, windows, and more. They were able to borrow a camper that is currently parked in their driveway to give them some peace of mind being back “home.”

About Them
My grandparents are Broward and Faith Reed, born and raised in Steinhatchee, FL. My grandmother was not only born at this location but was blessed to raise all their children there. They have 5 children: Dudley Reed, Keith Reed (passed 9/7/21 of a massive heart attack), Lynna’ Graves, Pamela Revels, and Cpt. Chad Reed (passed 01/14/2010 with Dixie County Sheriff’s Office). Both of my grandparents were and still are active members of their community. Faith retired from the Taylor County School system, and Broward retired from the County Road Crew as well as being one of the Fire Chiefs with the volunteer fire department. In their retired life, they enjoy sitting in what used to be their cook shack, visiting with anyone who might stop by, and attending many events for their grandchildren/great grandchildren.
