Help Restore the HU Halo G.R.E.E.N. Community Garden!

Donation protected
We are the HU Halo G.R.E.E.N. Garden Community Garden Club at Howard University. Established by HU students in 2011, HU Halo G.R.E.E.N. Community Garden is integral component and reflection of HU’s commitment to sustainability initiatives and practices. Halo provides HU students with the opportunity to learn more about community gardening practices, food distribution and cultivation, as well as self-sustaining wellness activities. Beyond the HU student body, Halo also serves as a beautification project for the surrounding Shaw-Howard region. Alumni and community members at-large deeply pour into Halo and are concerned about its continuation.

Throughout the years, we have supplied HU students and surrounding community members with veggies, fruits, and flowers such as kale, red lettuce, cabbage, cucumbers, squash, watermelon, apples, cherries, figs, peaches, African daisies, zinnias, tulips, and marigolds.

As many of you may know, HU started a demolition project in the garden on March 11, 2024 that completely blinded the leadership of Halo. You can read more about it here: https://www.washingtoninformer.com/howard-university-garden-demolition/. Since then, we have feverishly communicated and worked with the university to begin a restoration project. However, we are realizing that we will need outside help to restore the HU Halo G.R.E.E.N. Community Garden because, historically, funding for the garden has primarily come from the support of the community. We are starting from scratch, meaning we will need an installation project for new raised garden beds, several new fruit trees, seeds, a highly-encouraged greenhouse (to prevent rodents) other major gardening materials.

We are calling all concerned students, alumni, community members, farmers, gardeners, and donors to help us reach our starting goal to restore the garden! We cannot do this without you. More of our work can be seen on our Instagram page @huhalogarden. If you have any questions or comments, please reach out to us.

We thank you all in advance.
