Hi everyone,
My name is Madeleine and I am fundraising on behalf of my dear friend, Shanny. She is one of the most resilient, caring, and determined people I know, but right now she needs our help.
All funds raised will go directly toward her medical expenses and help her receive the permanent teeth she desperately needs. Any contribution, no matter the amount, makes a meaningful difference.
Pregnancy gave Shanny the greatest gift of all- her beautiful child, but it also took something she never imagined: her smile, her health, and her confidence.
Around six months pregnant, her teeth had already begun to change, though she didn’t realize it at the time. By two months postpartum, she could feel them becoming loose. When her baby was 18 months old, her teeth were painfully wobbly. Doctors finally told her that the bones holding her teeth had deteriorated so badly that she needed a full mouth reconstruction.
The months that followed were filled with pain and shame. Shanny ate only on one side of her mouth, covered her mouth when she laughed, took fewer pictures with her child, and avoided smiling in public. The emotional weight of losing all 32 of her natural teeth at such a young age has been devastating.
Because the cost of treatment in Canada over $70,000 was completely out of reach, Shanny searched for alternatives and eventually traveled to Turkey for the first stage of care. There, she bravely endured the trauma of having all her teeth removed and receiving 15 implants (8 upper, 7 lower). This stage cost $12,000 for treatment and $4,000 for travel expenses, everything she could possibly manage.
Now, Shanny has temporary fixed teeth. They were placed to protect her gums and support healing, and while they help her look “normal,” they are fragile. She cannot chew, but she can manage soft foods like soups, smoothies, and mashed meals. Still, every day she lives with the fear that these temporary teeth could break and if they do, she cannot afford the cost of repair. Beyond the physical challenges, the emotional scars of this journey remain heavy, as she continues life without the confidence of a permanent smile.
The next and final stage of treatment is a Toronto bridge system with 28 zirconium crowns. This will give her permanent teeth, restore her ability to eat normally, and most importantly give her back her confidence and her smile. The cost of this stage is $17,000 plus travel expenses.
Breakdown of Costs:
Phase 1 (Completed in Turkey):
$12,000 – 15 implants, teeth removal, placing temporary teeth
$4,000 – travel and related expenses (this included a 5-day stay for surgery and recovery)
Phase 2 (Upcoming, required to finish treatment):
$17,000 – Toronto bridge system with 28 zirconium crowns
~$4,000 – travel and recovery expenses (this requires an estimated 11-night stay for fitting and designing for functionality)
Shanny has endured unimaginable challenges with courage, but she cannot complete this journey alone. With your support, she can finally eat without pain, smile without fear, and live without shame.
Every donation, no matter the size, brings her one step closer to healing.
Thank you for helping give Shanny her smile back.
