Hello friends and family. I’m asking my
community to help in the restoration of my family home in Queens.
Queens house holds
so many memories for my brother Shawn and I. It was a refuge and launch pad for the lives of many friends and family
members who needed a place to stay
fresh from Trinidad, My parents
(God rest both of their souls )opened
their doors and their hearts without
thought of payment. Looking back now
the house seemed so huge. Like
Hermonie Granger’s purse the house
was small on the outside but expanded
on the inside to house , feed and nurture so many lives.
Sadly Queens house has fallen into
major disrepair due large in part to old
age and financial instability. My brother Shawn ,a disabled US military vet
suffering from PTSD has lived and tried
the best he could to keep the home
together for the past 20 plus years. .
Thanks to google and YouTube he has
managed tasks like DIY Sheetrock,
insulation and light electrical…SCARE!!!all while taking care of our elderly father.
Now after my fathers death last
year all the things we shelved (while
searching and organizing the documents of a parent deep in the throes of
Alzheimer’s) has come to a head . We
have come to realize that we( my brother on his limited disability check and me unemployed since early Covid pandemic )
cannot cut and paste the major
necessary repairs needed to bring our
home to code.
That is why we humbly ask our
community of friends, family, loved ones and caring strangers to donate what you can towards Queens house . Any
donation will go far towards fixing all
the things outside of our expertise and
sweat equity. Repairs like upgrading our 40 year old electrical
heating and plumbing systems
A new roof and based on her sad little
picture perhaps a front gate .
I’m aware it’s a big ask and I am also
aware of the power of the collective.
Anyone who knows me (tool belt
Shelley armed her handy heat gun )and
my brother (Mr cut twice THEN
measure )knows that if we could have we would have done and or financed the jobourselves. However these are trying
times and we find ourselves
overwhelmed by the financial enormity
of it all.
We can’t thank you all enough for
taking time to read this plea , for giving
what you can , and for sharing this link.
