Help Restore Pete Palumbo's Flooded Home

During the flooding in Oxford, Connecticut on August 18, my dad’s house flooded. The small stream that runs behind surrounded the house and filled the basement with seven feet of floodwater. The basement is a total loss, which is not being covered by insurance.
My dad, Pete Palumbo, has called the Naugatuck Valley home for ninety-four years. He was born just down the road in Ansonia. He is a proud Navy Veteran, who served in the Korean War. He worked for Sikorsky Aircraft for 40 years in both the Stratford and Shelton plants. His wife Mary Lou was a school nurse in Oxford.
He built his house in 1960. It’s where he and my mother raised my brother and me. It is a house with so many memories for him; memories of his wife and kids, nieces and nephews, grandkids, and now great grandkids. His basement was home to his workshop where he crafted rebus puzzles and handmade wooden toys. If he needed something around the house, a new way to feed the birds, or keep the squirrels away, a stand for his iPad, or a mnemonic device for memorizing card tricks, he made it. It is hard to ask for someone who has done everything himself for the better part of a century to ask for help, so we are doing it for him. We are asking for assistance to put his home back in good working order. Anything you can contribute would be greatly appreciated.
