We're raising funds to restore the sewer line connected to our home, and for Naimah's continued healing & rehabilitation in the aftermath of a major medical/health crisis.
NYC/DEP showed up at our doorstep last month; less than a week after my return home from an unanticipated hospital stay. While still recovering, regaining functioning and figuring out how I would take care of my family in my limited state, I was hit with a major blow. The city investigated a leak on our block and determined that our home's water line, connected to the city sewers has a leak that requires immediate repair. The repair cost is estimated at $10K, not including the restoration of any damage inside of our home the repairs will cause. There is no immediate assistance available for this type of emergency, nor guarantee that long term assistance options will help offset this cost. NYC/DEP essentially offloads the responsibility of their old and faulty lead pipes by putting the burden of repairs on the residents when damage is found near their home.
Until now, I've been able to get more time to address the repairs. But, was told this week that our water would be shut off completely if the repairs are not done immediately.
I'm turning to community now to avoid further crisis & trauma brought on by this emergency. I'm also asking for support as my recovery journey has only just begun and I have a significant amount of rehabilitation and re-adjusting to do in order to move forward and continue taking care of our family.
Any thing that you can offer makes a difference and will help us manage this emergency within what is already disastrous times. Thank you for taking the time to consider and lending your support. It takes a village!
