Aloha friends and family near and far,
My name is Abby and I live on one of the farms in Waialua recently impacted by the Kona Low storms.
In the early hours of Friday morning, the dam at Lake Wilson (Wahiawā Reservoir) failed, causing severe flash flooding throughout Waialua, Haleiwa, and Mokuleia on Oʻahu’s North Shore.
Our entire community has been deeply impacted.
I currently live at one of the farms that had been heavily impacted, and who support other farms in the area. These are spaces where we live, grow food, teach, and gather. This aina and our homes have been significantly affected, and much of our farm areas remain flooded as we begin to assess the damage.
At the same time, hundreds of others in our surrounding community are experiencing similar loss—homes, vehicles, solar systems, crops, and essential infrastructure have been damaged or destroyed. Some people have lost homes entirely. There is currently also a boil water advisory in place, adding urgency to an already difficult situation.
Aloha friends, family, and extended community,
In the early hours of Friday morning, the dam at Lake Wilson (Wahiawā Reservoir) failed, causing severe flash flooding throughout Waialua and Haleʻiwa on Oʻahu’s North Shore.
Our entire community has been deeply impacted.
Myself and others live and work at several of the farms near the Otake Camp. These are spaces where we grow food, teach, and live. These lands and homes have been significantly affected, and much of our farm areas remain flooded as we begin to assess the damage.
At the same time, hundreds of others in our surrounding community are experiencing similar, and even more extreme loss—homes, vehicles, solar systems, crops, and essential infrastructure have been damaged or entirely destroyed. There is currently also a boil water advisory in place, adding urgency to an already difficult situation.
We are raising funds to support both our immediate network and the wider community, and will be sharing resources to help where they are most needed.
Immediate funds will go toward community-wide relief efforts, including:
• Clean drinking water
• Gas and propane
• Food and essential supplies
• Rubber boots, gloves, mops, buckets
• Flashlights and batteries
• Equipment and support for drainage and cleanup
As we move forward, funds will also support:
• Repairing homes and farm infrastructure
• Replacing vehicles and damaged solar systems
• Restoring crops and land
• Supporting the continuation of our Little Seeds keiki program
• Helping ease the loss of income many are experiencing
This is a moment where our individual and collective needs are deeply intertwined. We are committed to supporting not only our farms, but the wider community that we are blessed to be a part of.
Any contribution—no matter the size—will go directly toward relief and rebuilding efforts. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page is equally meaningful.
Mahalo for your care and support of our community.
With love,
Abby
