Help Restore My Family’s 1969 Chevy Camaro

When I was a kid, I spent a lot of time in the back seat of my dad’s 1969 Chevy Camaro. We’d go on road trips, run errands, just drive around. It was always there.

When I turned 16, my dad handed me the keys. It wasn’t just a car to him, and it definitely wasn’t just a car to me. It was his.

My dad served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a helicopter door gunner. It’s hard to even imagine everything he went through, but when he came home, he was ready to start over.

He was dropped off at Paramount Chevrolet in Southern California, and that same day, he bought the Camaro brand new and drove it home. That car became part of his new life.

My dad spent his life building things that lasted. One of them was his barbershop, which my brother and I still run today. It’s something he built from the ground up, and we’ve kept it going in his name.

That Camaro was part of that same story.

It stayed in our family for years.

Then in 2009, it was stolen. Just gone.

For 17 years, we had no idea where it ended up. In 2017, my dad was diagnosed with cancer and he was gone within a few months. He never got the chance to see the car again.

That part has always stuck with me.

Recently, we got the call that the Camaro had been found. There was even a news story done on it, which still doesn’t feel real.

But what came back isn’t the car we remember. It’s just the body now. It’s going to take a lot to bring it back.

Most people would probably look at it and walk away, but I can’t. That car means too much. It holds so many memories with my dad, and getting it back now feels like something I can’t ignore.

Restoring it isn’t just about fixing a car. It’s about holding onto a piece of him that I thought was gone for good.

If you’re able to help in any way, whether that’s donating or just sharing this, I really appreciate it.

Even if we can just get it running again, that would mean everything.
