I am Tahalia Wisdom. I am currently living in America, but my immediate family lives in Higgins Land, St. Ann, Jamaica. I’m reaching out for help after Hurricane Melissa severely damaged my family home in rural Saint Ann, Jamaica. The roof—covering two bedrooms, a living room, and a porch (veranda)—was completely blown off, leaving our home exposed to the elements.
Yet many aid efforts are heading to Jamaica. I see most will go to areas on the west part of the island, which is greatly devastated. Because I understand that my family home is in deep rural St. Ann, affected but not as badly as the west part of the island, I have come on here to ask for help to assist my mom. The area our family home is in may not receive much aid at this time. At the moment, I’m doing my best from abroad to restore our family home. My estimated repair cost is JMD $1.8–2.8 million (about USD $11,000–$18,000). These were measurements I have made in the past and a materials list I estimated online. As the main provider, while my brother living at the house is battling with schizophrenia and my mom's main income covers household bills, I personally can’t meet this cost alone and humbly ask for your support.
Thankfully, my family is safe, though communication is limited due to ongoing power and service outages. Any contribution—big or small—will make a meaningful difference in rebuilding our home.
I’m still awaiting images of the damage, so I appreciate your patience and understanding.
With heartfelt thanks,
Tahalia
