Hi, I am Chaplain Tawanna, a member of the International Fellowship of Chaplains (IFOC), Chattahoochee Valley Chaplain Corps (CVCC), serving as the Community Liason Coordinator. I was introduced to this lovely woman of God, Mother Mary R. Whitaker of Columbus, Georgia (a 'Military Gold Star' Mom) back in 2019. Her eyes and speech were so vibrant as she addressed the church parishioners about the goodness of God in her life. Tragic stuck on Father's Day, June 2021, while she was resting at home that fateful Sunday afternoon. A Georgia thunderstorm with heavy rains and winds, caused a tree to fall right on her house! Her neighbors raced over to her place when they heard the loud crash to see if she was home, and miraculously she emerged from under the rubble alive!
Thanking God, she was saved, but her home was rendered uninhabitable. We are soliciting your help to rebuild and restore Mother Mary's home. Mother Mary has served her community for over 60 years, providing food, clothes, babysitting services for working single moms, a safe house for displaced families, and teaching children to show love and respect for each other.
She has been a pillar in the surrounding communities working as an evangelist and minister in the Christian faith.
Mary was born in 1924 and has survived two pandemics, several wars, domestic violence, and the loss of many loved ones over time. She is a mother to ten sons (five deceased-one of whom served on active duty U.S. Navy) and a widow. Mother Mary lives a quiet and peaceable life and has limited physical mobility, but a very sharp mind. She's always willing to help anyone in need. She is on a fixed income and currently living in dilapidated conditions of a friend's home since August 2021 because her home is still condemned.
Please join us in helping rebuild her house. Let's rally to her aid like she has done for so many families over these last 60+ years!
