My name is Edward Cousins, and I serve as Superintendent at Jones Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1340 Bay Street in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Jones Chapel has been a cornerstone of faith in our community for over 55 years. The church was originally founded on June 28, 1964, under Rev. Walter Jones and was first known as Greater Jones Chapel. In 1965, it became Jones Memorial Church under the leadership of Rev. J.E. Truitt, who pastored 24 members at that time. Two years later, Rev. Joe Washington became pastor, and by 1968, a decision was made to build a new church led by Deacon Frank Jones and Deacon Scott Eashmon. The new church building officially began construction in 1969 under Rev. Alexander.

Today, Jones Chapel is a small but devoted congregation with about 10 active members, many of whom are seniors. Despite our size, our faith remains strong. We clean, repair, and maintain the church grounds ourselves, but after more than five decades, the building needs major repairs that are beyond what we can handle alone.

Our congregation has some funds saved, but not nearly enough to complete all the work. Most of our members are on fixed incomes, and we’re stepping out on faith that God will move through the hearts of others to help us preserve this historic church.
