Help restore Joe's smile
Donation protected
Hello. My name is Steve. My nephew Joseph Hurst was seriously injured while riding an ATV on Nov. 6th. The 4-wheeler rolled three times, breaking his upper and lower jaw in 5 places with additional facial fractures. He also sustained deep lacerations to his lip and jaw and ultimately caused him to lose/damage 18 teeth. The accident was so severe it was initially thought his jaw was completely severed.
He was placed into a medically induced coma in the ER and spent five days in ICU. The swelling and damage to his mouth and head were so bad that he needed to be intubated and put on a respirator for four days. As tests were performed, it was revealed that he’d miraculously avoided any brain, eye or spinal injury. His doctors were stunned that he had survived such a dramatic accident. He truly had a guardian angel watching over him.
After spending a week in the hospital, Joe was able to come home and being the long process of recovery. Losing 25 lbs. and being unable to chew or eat solid food for at least two months will make this process slow and painful. Luckily, Joe’s wonderful employer carried insurance that covers many but not all of his hospital bills.
Unfortunately, Joe needs to have extensive dental and facial reconstruction that will be painful, costly, and take some time—requiring a specialist in Hawaii. He’ll need six implants at $2500 apiece and ten teeth replaced at between $1300-$1500 each. We hope to raise the entire $30,000 in the next six weeks, but anything friends and family can help with will be greatly appreciated.
Many of his friends and family have reached out to ask how they can help. Though he will carry many scars from this accident physically and mentally for some time to come. I believe returning Joe’s beautiful smile will genuinely help in his recovery. Any donations, large or small, are greatly appreciated and will make a massive impact on Joe’s life. Even if you’re not able to give, Please pass on Joe’s story.
Spread the word that hope is possible, miracles do happen, and people do still help and care for one another. Thank you.
