On Wednesday, October 6, 2021, my sister received the phone call of every parent’s worst nightmares — a phone call to let her know that her son had been involved in a serious accident and that she needed to get to the accident scene urgently. Jack had just turned 13 the week before, and he was riding his bike home from school as he always did. He doesn’t remember what happened to him, and we don’t know any details yet because the police are still investigating, but what we know is that a neighbor found Jack unconscious and bloodied in a contorted position looking like he had been thrown over his handlebars.
As anyone who knows my sister Jaime would expect, she has refused to leave Jack’s side. When she arrived at the scene of the accident, the first responders initially were telling her she couldn’t go in the ambulance because she was so upset, and there was no way she was letting that happen. Jack kept saying he just wanted a hug from his mom, and Jaime abandoned their van in the road, tossed the keys to one of the first responders, and went to go hug her son. Meanwhile, when a neighbor rang the doorbell at their home and notified Steve that his son had been in an accident, he nearly broke the door off the hinges running out of the house. Both Jaime and Steve are so incredibly grateful to the first responders and neighbors who helped Jack and feel so lucky to live in such a wonderful and close-knit community.
Our family is counting our blessings in many ways — Jack survived the accident. While he has a bad concussion, he is expected to recover. He is able to speak and walk. His spine and neck were not impacted. This could have been much, much worse, and we are so thankful and grateful that he is strong and will pull through this. But, Jack’s angelic face took the brunt of the impact. Many of his teeth were either knocked out, knocked loose, cracked, chipped, or damaged at the root. And it is going to be a long, expensive, challenging road to restore Jack’s beautiful smile to its former glory. It will take the better part of the next decade to make it happen. And this kind of dental work is sadly something that Jaime’s and Steve’s insurance only has limited coverage for.
So, I am asking for your help — Can you help put the smile back on Jack’s face after this horrible accident? I know many of our friends and family cannot wait to see Jack smile again, so I set up this page to make it easy to help. Jamie and Steve will greatly appreciate any help they can get to make sure they can get the very best restoration money can buy for Jack’s smile. Thank you to everyone reading this for caring about Jack. ♥️
