Help Us Rebuild Our Home & Community After Hurricane Melissa Category 5

Hello everyone,

We are Ingrid & Alecia Garrison from Black River, St.Elizabeth, Jamaica.

On Tuesday October 28, Hurricane Melissa struck our island and left a trail of destruction across many communities. However, Black River, was left with scenes of desperation. The storm was a category 5 with powerful winds of 185 mph and heavy rains ripped through our home, damaging the roof, walls, and everything inside. In just a few hours, everything our granny worked so hard for was gone.

When the storm passed, silence filled the air where laughter once lived. The place where our granny and her children told stories on the verandah, where Sunday dinners brought everyone together, and where our granny hands had laid the first stones was now unrecognizable.

This house is more than just a building. This home isn’t just wood and concrete. It carries our history. Our granny worked tirelessly for years to build and preserve the home for her children, grandchildren and future generations. Then her children took over to continue the preservation and upkeep. Every board, every nail, every room held her love, pride, and sacrifice. To see it damaged like this has been heartbreaking for all of us

Family and friends have been affected, tremendously. Their homes have been destroyed. The town of Black River as we all know it’s like an apocalypse. Supermarkets, hospitals, schools, and businesses are wiped out. Black River holds a lot in history and it’s the bread basket of Jamaica.

The donations will go towards:
Repair roof, windows and doors
Replace furniture & clean up flood damage
Provide clothes, food and toiletries for the affected neighbors and friends

Every contribution no matter how small brings us one step closer to stability, safety, and home. Even if you can’t donate, simply sharing our story means the world to us.

Thank you for your kindness, love, and support. Jamaica is strong, and with your help, we’ll rise again.

“Hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed".
2 Corinthians 4:8-9
