Help Support These Families Rebuild
My name is Michelle Thomas, I was born and raised in North Carolina and have many family members who also call Western NC home. Ashleigh and I are teammates in Green Compass, and through that partnership she has become a dear friend and mentor since we met. She has always generously offered her time and knowledge to me while I’ve learned and grown my business. Now she and her sweet family are in great need so I’m reaching out to our friends, teammates and community to help them navigate through some very unexpected expenses for both her family and also her in-laws who were greatly impacted by Helene. No amount is too small, thank you so much for your prayers and support for these sweet family’s.
The following statement is from Ashleigh & Shelly Maricle on behalf of them and Shelly’s parents Chuck & Penny.
Dear Friends and Community,
We need you now more than ever.
On Friday morning, Hurricane Helene swept through Warrensville, NC, unleashing devastation that has forever altered the lives of many families along the north fork of the New River. For my family and neighbors, the impact has been both life-threatening and unimaginable.
Two homes on our street have been hit hardest. While we are grateful that everyone is safe, the road to recovery feels overwhelming. The first house, the white one with the green roof, was nearly submerged. We don’t know if it can be salvaged, but your support will help us strip it down to the studs and assess the damage. If it can’t be saved, the remaining funds will go toward rebuilding this cherished home.
My parents’ house, located in a 500-year flood plain, was filled with six feet of water in mere hours. My father, a blue-collar worker and skilled craftsman, poured his heart and soul into designing and building this home with his own hands. My mother, working two jobs, sacrificed so much to help make this dream a reality. Now, as my mother bravely battles stage 4 cancer and cannot work, my father has retired to care for her. They are facing unimaginable challenges, and the social security benefits they receive barely touch the mounting costs.
Because they live in a flood plain, my parents were left vulnerable without flood insurance. The funds we raise will directly support their urgent needs, including a new furnace, a water heater, and extensive repairs for the water damage. Additionally, we hope to help my father purchase a used truck after both of his were swept away by the storm.
We are reaching out to you, our beloved community far and wide, for help. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a profound difference in our ability to rebuild. Together, we can restore hope and stability to families who have given so much to our community.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your compassion and support during this incredibly challenging time. Your kindness means the world to us. ♥️
