Every Donation Helps Protect Our Moorland, Wildlife and Those Who Risked Everything
The beautiful Dovestone landscape has been devastated by a major wildfire that continues to burn across the moorland. Firefighters, mountain rescue volunteers and partner agencies have worked around the clock in extremely dangerous conditions to contain the blaze, protect nearby communities and prevent further destruction. As of today, firefighting operations are still ongoing, with specialist wildfire teams continuing to tackle hotspots across the moor.
This fundraiser has one simple purpose:
To support the organisations working to restore Dovestone's wildlife and habitats while also recognising the emergency services and volunteers who have been on the frontline of this incident.
All funds raised will be split equally between:
RSPB Dove Stone – helping restore damaged habitats, peatland, wildlife and ecosystems while supporting long-term conservation that can reduce future wildfire risks.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) – supporting firefighters through their official charitable initiatives and helping recognise the incredible response to this major wildfire.
Oldham Mountain Rescue Team (OMRT) – whose volunteers have provided vital assistance in difficult and hazardous terrain throughout the emergency.
Why This Matters
Wildfires don't simply burn vegetation.
They destroy habitats that have taken decades to recover, kill wildlife unable to escape the flames, damage peatlands that store vast amounts of carbon, increase future erosion and can leave the landscape vulnerable for years.
Healthy peat bogs and restored moorland help retain moisture, improve biodiversity and reduce the speed at which future fires can spread. Investing in conservation today helps make these landscapes more resilient tomorrow.
Meanwhile, firefighters and rescue teams have faced intense heat, challenging terrain and rapidly changing conditions while working continuously to protect people, homes and nature. Their dedication deserves our support.
