A Broward judge has ordered one of the county’s oldest churches to restore the membership and voting rights of more than 50 parishioners who were expelled after raising concerns about serious violations of church governance. These members—now plaintiffs—filed suit last fall after accusing the pastor of disregarding church bylaws and using church funds to make a $200,000 down payment on a home in West Palm Beach.
The deacons authorized this $200,000 payment without the required approval of the congregation. This action directly violated the bylaws that exist to ensure fairness, transparency, and shared decision‑making within our church. Anyone who questions the pastor’s actions or authority is swiftly removed from their positions. In an even more troubling move, leadership expelled all plaintiffs simply because we demanded accountability.
If this pattern of unchecked power continues, First Baptist Church Piney Grove risks becoming a place controlled by a select few—leaving faithful members with no voice in how their money is spent or how their church is governed.
That is why we, the plaintiffs, have taken the courageous step of pursuing legal action. Our goal is simple: to ensure that the church constitution is honored and that financial decisions are made responsibly, ethically, and in accordance with the will of the congregation. But justice requires resources, and we cannot shoulder this burden alone.
This action is not against the church. It is against the leadership whose actions have violated the trust of the congregation. Many members have expressed quiet support but are hesitant to speak out publicly. If that describes you, this is your opportunity to stand with us anonymously.
By contributing to this campaign, you are helping restore integrity to First Baptist Church Piney Grove. Our members continue to carry the cost of legal representation, and your support—no matter the amount—makes a meaningful difference.
Please donate today and help us protect the future of First Baptist Church Piney Grove.
