Hi, I’m Robyn, and I’m raising funds for my dear friend Jessica and her teenager—two people who love fiercely and need help rebuilding safe access to their home so they can rebuild a steady foundation to heal and grow in.
I live in Asheville, NC, where the mountains hold stories of resilience, deep roots, and the unshakable spirit of those who call this land home. When Hurricane Helene tore through our region, it left a scar across the landscape—flooded valleys, fallen trees, broken homes, and communities struggling to rebuild. But amidst the widespread damage, some homes and lives fell through the cracks of large-scale recovery efforts.
Jessica’s was one of them.
For five months, while being displaced out of state, she fought to find a way home. She was told she would need a $500,000 custom-built bridge or equally costly land restoration efforts that were simply out of reach. While major repair crews focused on the hardest-hit areas, Jessica was left searching for solutions on her own.
Most roads for possible support led to disappointment, but she never gave up.
Finally, she recently connected with a small local company willing to take on the repair challenge at a fraction of the cost others were quoting. And while the new path forward is much more attainable, it is still far beyond what she can manage alone.
Jessica doesn’t just believe in reciprocity and balance—she lives it. She is someone who gives, who shows up, who believes that what we do for one, we do for all. And now, she needs that same circle of care to surround her.
This campaign isn’t just about rebuilding a driveway, it’s about restoring the sanctuary she has built—for herself, for her teen, and for the countless people she has helped along the way.
Jessica's Story:
"At 4:00 a.m. on September 27th, my teenager and I were jolted awake by a deep, thunderous roar. As Hurricane Helene raged through our mountains, the earth outside our home began to give way. An entire section of land collapsed into the ravine below.
Within an instant, a large portion of our driveway was gone. An 80-foot by 50-foot void where solid ground had been. Power lines snapped. The well water line was severed. Giant boulders and a dozen old-growth oak trees tumbled down the hillside, crashing through the forest. We stood in witness, stunned, watching as our only way in or out disappeared beneath the force of the storm.
With no road, no water, and no power, we had no choice but to leave. Knowing it would be a many-months-long battle of securing a way to rebuild.
My home has always been a place of refuge for community, a sanctuary of healing, and a gathering ground for transformation. I have spent the last 15 years devoted to serving others… And I deeply long to restore the place I call home, and the space which supports my community."
What Will Be Done & How Funds Will Be Used:
Jessica has already poured everything she has into making this happen. She has tried every avenue, pursued every grant, and knocked on every door. After looking into over 70 different organizations for support, being denied by insurance, and FEMA offering only a small fraction of funding, she needs this community-supported campaign to complete repairs.
The amount needed to complete the project, beyond what Jessica has already paid and gathered, is $32,000.
First-stage construction is finally underway, after 5 long-awaited months. Every dollar raised will go directly toward:
✅ Reconstructing driveway and land – Digging out the landslide area, compacting layers of dirt, and reinforcing the ravine with rock and fill dirt for stability.
✅ Installing culvert drainage system – Essential for preventing future washouts.
✅ Restoring utilities – Repairing electrical lines and fixing the well pipe, so they have access to power and water again.
✅ Drainage and erosion control – Clearing fallen trees, stabilizing slopes, and re-seeding the land for erosion control to ensure long-term stability.
✅ Road grading and surfacing – To make the road safe and drivable.
