We are A.K. and Flower—a couple of two spirit, queer, disabled individuals with overlapping marginalized identities. I am Mexican, and Flower is Jewish. Our lives have been shaped by resilience and survival, and we are now facing urgent challenges together.

In February, I escaped an abusive relationship in Arizona, losing my official documents, my dogs, Doobie and Delta, and the life I had built over years. Also in Arizona, I experienced medical neglect and malpractice that almost led to my death, being constantly accused of faking my symptoms, as I suffer from functional neurological disorder. I had been sharing my story online, in regards to my projects and my disability progressing, which is where Flower and I originally met, years ago.

In March, Flower and I finally met in person and they soon after became my caregiver and support person. We moved in together, and in April, a car accident totaled the home on wheels we were living in. Through crowdfunding and a family loan we still need to pay back, we managed to get a Toyota Previa van. Cream Puff, our partially blind, disabled tabby, lived with us in our little Blue Egg until the heat got too intense, so we found a temporary foster for him. To escape the extreme heat, we stayed with Flower’s relatives for a bit.

On July 9, after I was discriminated against for my immigrant identity and called a slur, Flower spoke up for me and was violently attacked by a family member. I was assaulted trying to stop the attack. Unfortunately, the assailant faced no consequences. We are both recovering from pain and PTSD, and the heat and life on the road are making healing slower. We are yet to get on disability and need mutual aid to bridge the gap to get there. Our immediate focus is fixing the van and finding a safe place to rest from the heat, so we can reunite with Cream Puff. After that, we hope to find a more permanent place and possibly a bigger vehicle so I can reunite with Dooby and Delta.

**We URGENTLY need a temporary, steady place to stay so we can, not only properly rest, but so we can gut, remodel, and insulate our van, and recover from the trauma and heat.**

Funds raised will help us: find temporary lodging; pay back the family loan; cover travel expenses — namely to get to our medical appointments — fix the van’s AC, as well as giving our egg a tune up; to pay for any and all legal fees for the both of us; to successfully obtain copies of all my legal documents; and finally, to secure a safe space for us and our animals. Our Puppy Cat, Cream Puff, misses us very much! And my rambunctious pittie, Dooby, and Delta, my elderly, disabled, partially blind rottie who wandered the desert ‘til she found me, are anxiously awaiting to be with us.

We share big dreams of owning buildable land and growing a supportive community, and our recent near-fatal experiences reminded us how close many people are to real-world threats and discrimination—sparking an even stronger drive to teach marginalized communities self-advocacy, self-defense, and survival strategies. Flower brings deep knowledge in tiny home building and all things botanical, while I’ve been studying sustainable, restorative farming and food autonomy so we can steward the land responsibly.

Together, we’re working to recover, find safety, and build toward our mission of equipping others with practical skills to protect themselves and navigate attacks and discrimination. Thank you for standing with us in this urgent moment and helping turn this vision into action.

Somos A.K. y Flower, una pareja de personas dos espíritus, queer y con discapacidades, con identidades marginadas que se entrelazan. Yo soy mexicane y Flower es judíe. Nuestras vidas han sido marcadas por la resiliencia y la supervivencia, y ahora enfrentamos retos urgentes juntos.

En febrero, escapé de una relación abusiva en Arizona, perdiendo mis documentos oficiales, a mis perros, Doobie y Delta, y la vida que había construido durante años. También en Arizona, sufrí negligencia y mala praxis médica que casi me costaron la vida; constantemente me acusaban de fingir mis síntomas, ya que vivo con un trastorno neurológico funcional. Yo había estado compartiendo mi historia en línea sobre mis proyectos y el avance de mi discapacidad, que fue como Flower y yo nos conocimos hace años.

En marzo, Flower y yo finalmente nos conocimos en persona y, poco después, se convirtió en mi cuidador y apoyo. Nos mudamos juntos y, en abril, un accidente automovilístico dejó inservible la casita sobre ruedas donde ambos vivíamos. Gracias a una colecta y un préstamo familiar que aún debemos pagar, logramos conseguir una van Toyota Previa. Cream Puff, nuestro gatito tabby discapacitado y parcialmente ciego, vivía con nosotros en nuestro pequeño "Huevito Azúl" hasta que el calor se volvió demasiado intenso, por lo que buscamos un hogar temporal para él. Para escapar del calor extremo, nos quedamos un tiempo con familiares de Flower.

El 9 de julio, después de que yo fuera discriminade por mi identidad inmigrante y me llamaran con un insulto despectivo, Flower alzó la voz en my defensa y fue atacado violentamente por un familiar. Yo también fui agredide al intentar detener el ataque. Lamentablemente, el agresor no enfrentó ninguna consecuencia. Ambos nos estamos recuperando del dolor físico y del estrés postraumático, y el calor junto con la vida en la carretera están haciendo que la sanación sea más lenta. Aún no hemos recibido el apoyo de la discapacidad gubernamental y necesitamos ayuda mutua para cubrir los gastos mientras llegamos a ese punto. Nuestro enfoque inmediato es arreglar la van y encontrar un lugar seguro para descansar del calor y así poder reunirnos con Cream Puff. Después de eso, esperamos encontrar un lugar más permanente y posiblemente un vehículo más grande para poder recuperar a Doobie y Delta.

**Necesitamos URGENTEMENTE un lugar temporal y estable donde quedarnos, no solo para descansar adecuadamente, sino para poder desmantelar, remodelar y aislar nuestra camioneta, y recuperarnos del trauma y del calor.**

Los fondos recaudados nos ayudarán a: encontrar alojamiento temporal; pagar el préstamo familiar; cubrir gastos de viaje (especialmente para asistir a nuestras citas médicas); arreglar el aire acondicionado de la camioneta y darle mantenimiento necesario a nuestro "huevito"; pagar cualquier gasto legal para ambos; para obtener con éxito copias de todos mis documentos legales; y finalmente, para asegurar un espacio seguro para nosotros y nuestros animalitos. ¡Nuestro "perro-gato", Cream Puff, nos extraña! Doobie, mi pitbull inquieto, y Delta, mi rottweiler anciana, discapacitada y parcialmente ciega que vagó por el desierto hasta encontrarme, esperan ansiosamente estar con nosotros.

Compartimos el gran sueño de tener un terreno donde podamos construir y cultivar una comunidad de apoyo. Nuestras recientes experiencias cercanas a la muerte nos recordaron lo expuestas que están muchas personas a amenazas reales y a la discriminación, lo que ha encendido en nosotros un deseo aún más fuerte de enseñar autodefensa, autorrepresentación y estrategias de supervivencia a las comunidades marginadas. Flower tiene amplios conocimientos en la construcción de casas diminutas (tiny homes) y todo lo botánico, mientras que yo he estado estudiando agricultura sostenible y restaurativa, así como la autonomía alimentaria, para que podamos cuidar la tierra de manera responsable.
