We are raising funds to help Reshima and her two kiddos find housng and stay off the street! Our goal is to raise enough to cover a few weeks in a hotel room (while she searches for housing and jobs) and for a deposit on an apartment of their own.
The Story: Reshima is a Black single momma struggling to make ends meet for her and her two boys. I met them in a Walgreens parking lot in LA a few weeks ago where her boys were playing. They had been bouncing between motel rooms, sidewalks, and shelter waiting lists for months and I helped them get off the street for two nights.
Frustrated by the high cost of living in LA and lack of available support services, Reshima decided to go back home to Nebraska last week and the three of them are now working to get settled there. She is feeling optimistic that one of the shelter or affordable housing waiting lists she is on will come through soon, but is in need of additional support while searching for resources and housing there - every $75 we raise helps ensure they don't wind up back on the street tonight.
Reshima and I have stayed in touch over the last couple weeks and I have learned that she is incredibly dedicated, pragmatic, and funny. She also grew up in foster care and doesn't have many people in her life who can help support her.
My story is quite the opposite - I have always had acess to stable housing and an extensive family safety net to fall back on if I ever needed it - and I've been excited about doing what I can to try to help extend a little bit of that safety and support to Reshima and her sweet kiddos. I hope you'll consider joining me and thank you for reading <3
