A few days ago, we found a scared and exhausted dog running across the parking lot of the ice rink, lost and in distress. After a scary chase across busy roads, we were able to get her on a leash and offer her some water. She was hesitant at first, but after an hour of gentle reassurance, she began to trust us. When she finally relaxed, she rolled over and we noticed that she was pregnant. After sitting with her for two hours, she trusted us enough to come with us to the car, and we took her to the vet. They checked her for a microchip and were able to contact her previous owners. Sadly, they never responded. The vet also discovered she hadn’t received care in over a year. We called the humane society to see if they could help us with a wellness check and ultrasound to check on the puppies. They informed us that they could take her but that they would terminate her pregnancy and spay her, even though we said we could find homes for her puppies. We knew we couldn’t do that, so we brought her home to help her.
Now known as Rescued Mama Dog/Rink Dog, she’s facing a lot of challenges. She needs a full wellness check, ultrasound, heart worm test, and blood work. She also has a chipped tooth that needs to be removed, which alone, will cost around $1800. With her puppies due in just a few weeks, we are preparing for their arrival by gathering supplies for the birth and for their care afterward. We’ll also need to get both Rescued Mama Dog/Rink Dog and her puppies checked out after the birth to make sure they’re healthy, and get her spayed. Since we’ve never cared for a dog giving birth before, we may need to hire someone to help us through the process.
We plan to adopt Rescued Mama Dog/Rink Dog ourselves and find loving homes for each of her puppies. The need for support is somewhat urgent, as her puppies will be born in a couple of weeks, and she needs ongoing medical care and supplies. Any help will go directly toward her vet bills, birth supplies, and ensuring a safe start for her and her puppies. Thank you for supporting this journey to give Rescued Mama Dog/Rink Dog and her puppies a chance at a happy life.
