During our travels to Kenya this past winter, we crossed paths with Raphael Parsanka, a teacher working at Enkongu Narok Primary School. He explained a reality that many young women and girls in the country and throughout the continent, are confronted with - child marriage and/or female genital mutilation (FGM).

Young women and girls who want to escape these circumstances have few options and resources available to them. Recognizing their situation and need for help, Raphael has played a significant role taking in girls to the school where he teaches, providing housing and support. Although the girls' welfare is being maintained with some funds pooled by Raphael himself and other teachers, they are struggling to do so while taking care of their own families.

We were truly inspired by Raphael's devotion to ensure the girls' safety and his efforts to see them achieve a good education. We are therefore fundraising to help aid Raphael in providing an education for 7 girls currently being housed at Enkongu Narok Primary School and 1 girl attending Presentation School.

A three month term for one girl costs approximately $100 USD. In addition to term fees, the funds raised will be used for the girls' daily upkeep, for example, sanitary products and basic necessities. Currently, term fees are not inclusive of meals so this is where funds will also be allocated.

Many of the girls have expressed their dreams and intentions of studying in higher education. The support and care they receive now will contribute significantly to achieving these aspirations.

Our goal is to raise what we can to give these girls the best opportunity to access an education they deserve by setting up continued support. We hope that by doing so, we can deliver the most impact for them now and for their future. Any contribution, big or small, you can make is greatly appreciated and will go a long way.
