My name is Tara Korbanics. I am a teacher and animal rights advocate. I am doing my best to make a small dent in the horrible animal welfare situation in Albania.

One year ago, I found two tiny, hungry, flea ridden puppies on the side of the highway. My family and I fostered them for four months in our apartment (where we already had a rescued street cat and our own senior dog).

After four months, the puppies grew too big for the small space in our apartment and I sadly had to place them in a private shelter. I have been paying for the care of the puppies for a year. In January, that became more expensive as the shelter is $260 per month. The shelter (@heartthatbark @evanica) is safe and the owner of the shelter cares so deeply about the dogs. However, they need their own homes and they need freedom. Before I gave them to the shelter, I took them on long walks every day, which they loved; that is not something that they get to do anymore. They don't get to play in the field, or jump in the lake. They have been confined to the walls of the shelter since January.

Now there are many costs coming due. There is a possibility that by December, they may be able to travel out of the country to foster homes in Finland, however, I need help right now to get them ready for that.

Here is the cost breakdown:

Bordetella x 2= $50

DHPPL vaccine x 2= $32

Nexgard x 2 for 3 months = $60

Shelter x 2 for 3 months = $780

Neuter x 2 = $120 (discounted rescue rate)

Titer test x 2 = $480 (imperative for European travel)

TOTAL: $1,522

I do not yet know what the travel costs will be.
