PUNCH is a 7-month-old baby monkey currently living at the Ichikawa City Zoo in Japan. Like many others, I came across viral videos showing PUNCH being bullied and beaten by adult monkeys after his mother abandoned him. It’s heartbreaking to see such a young, vulnerable animal left with no one to rely on but a plush toy for comfort. While the zoo staff have tried to make him comfortable, it’s clear that more needs to be done to ensure his safety and well-being.
As an animal lover and dog parent, I know how deeply animals can connect with us and how critical care and attention are, especially when they’re little. PUNCH’s situation is urgent—he faces not only physical abuse but also emotional trauma from being isolated and parentless. I worry that without dedicated, round-the-clock care, his chances for a happy, healthy life are at risk. Animals in the wild can be bullied and tormented when they don’t fit in, and PUNCH deserves better.
