Pooh Corner - Home for rescued horses and ponies was set up to help horses and ponies that can no longer be cared for by their owners or are abandoned; but in addition to just rescuing the animals themselves Pooh Corner also focusses on helping local people who wish to learn to care for and be involved with horses and ponies and often would not otherwise have a chance to do so.
Aims of Pooh Corner:
- Reducing the numbers of horses and ponies abandoned by owners, fly grazed or kept in unsuitable environments e.g. gardens
- Supporting overstretched animal welfare organisations such as RSPCA and respond to concerns from the public e.g. animal welfare
- Working with local community groups on road safety to promote safety for the most vulnerable road user groups
- Supporting local authorities with abandoned or fly grazed horses and ponies
- Giving children, teenagers and adults the opportunity to be involved with horses and ponies
- Teaching good horse and pony care to prospective horse and pony owners, thus improving equine welfare
- Protection of the local environment through effective, sustainable land management which supports and encourages biodiveristy
